Moving to Pemberton from Whistler

Published on

For most people, moving to Whistler is a lifestyle change. They move because they want to escape to the mountains and enjoy all the activities Whistler has to offer.

But, what happens when you want to escape from Whistler? The closest, and most popular option, is to move to Pemberton.

Why move to Pemberton?

There are many reasons to move to Pemberton, but the most common is to get away from the crowds of Whistler in order to settle down. It is often said that Pemberton is where Whistler kids go when they grow up and want to start a family.

Another major reason is affordability. In general, housing north of Whistler is substantially cheaper and within the budget of those looking for a starter or family home.

Aside from settling down, Pemberton offers a huge number of recreational activities on a par with Whistler, meaning you don’t have to sacrifice proximity to the outdoors. It is also arguably closer to nature, with remote areas right on your doorstep.

If Whistler is a mountain resort, Pemberton is an authentic mountain town.

What to expect

One of the first things you notice is the landscape. The valley is incredibly flat with Mt. Currie dominating the skyline – so much so, pretty much every property is blessed with incredible mountain views.

Despite being just a half an hour drive from Whistler, the weather is hotter in summer and colder in winter, with more snow. It also receives slightly less rain during the warmer months.

The Pemberton community is incredibly welcoming and due to the small size of the town you will know everyone before long. With a number of popular schools nearby the area also offers a great place for children to grow up.

You could be forgiven for expecting there to be fewer activities than in neighbouring Whistler, however, it is quite the opposite. Pemberton offers an incredible range of outdoor pursuits all year round, from backcountry skiing, sledding, ice-skating, and fishing, to hiking, mountain biking, camping, and so much more.
